Self Care While Self Isolating

Personally I’ve been practicing self care for many years, it was something I found necessary when I began my healing journey and honestly it is something that is so important for our wellbeing and should be a part of our everyday routine regardless of what is happening around us. However, I understand that for many when things seem to be going well it is a routine that easily falls quietly by the wayside. So it is during times of enormous stress or unprecedented stress such is the way of the world right now that we seek to find ways to self soothe.

What ever has brought you here today, whether you are updating your regime, looking for something new or just beginning here are a few ideas that I like to incorporate into my self care routine.

1. Energetically cleanse your space

There are many ways to do this and while I clear my space after each session I also like to smudge our house regularly using a sage smudge stick. Remember after  you have cleared your space to take some time and focus your intent with what you would like to enter the space once it has been cleared! Bless your space with love!

2. Journal

Journaling is a daily one for me, it is a way to release and express your innermost thoughts and feelings and become more self aware, take time to analyse your dreams and set your daily intent. This is something I would recommend you do daily and please feel free to bring to session anything that has popped up in your journal that might need some healing work!

3. Get outside

Another daily one, getting outside in nature is healing in and of itself. It boosts your immune system and your energy, enhances your creativity, up your dose of vitamin D and indulge in some aromatherapy and smell the flowers while you’re there. Being outside is calming and grounding and another way to centre yourself if feeling a little erratic. Enjoy a calming walk or just sit and breathe.

4. Meditate

Meditation is essential for that spiritual connection we all need as we step onto our spiritual path. Allowing yourself time to listen to your intuition, higher self and source is one way we can avoid turmoil with wrong decision making or self doubt. Tap into your intuition, calm your mind and thoughts and tune into some spiritual insight.

5. Yoga

Yoga is wonderful for your mind, body and spirit connection, with much focus on the breath it allows you to connect not only to yourself but spirit itself. This practice will not only strengthen and tone your body but allow you to shift energy blockages and quieten your mind as you connect.

6. Soak in the tub

Take yourself out of the stress of the world and possibly even your home, I know some households are feeling the lack of personal space right about now so fill your tub, add some bubbles and essential oils, a candle or two and take some time out and soak your stress away.

7. At Home Spa Day

With all the salons closed it’s the perfect time to treat yourself to an at home day spa experience. Pamper yourself with a healing clay face mask, pop on a hair treatment and paint your nails for a bit of self love. I know this is something my daughter and I love to do together, a nice bonding experience as well as showing her just one way to love herself.

8. Sleep

Ah sleep. We all need it but we never seem to get enough am I right? Sleep is something that is essential to our wellbeing and mental health. As we sleep our sub conscious gets to work on letting go of issues that no longer serve and working through others. It helps to keep to a sleep routine so if possible go to bed and wake up at the same time each day so the body can self regulate. If you are struggling with sleep or insomnia a healing session may help. Personally, my dreams will show me what needs clearing in a session so they a full of messages if we take the time to dream.

9. Eat clean

Eating healthy is an obvious one but one we easily ignore or deny giving into unhealthy treats and comfort food all too often. Comfort food can be healthy and good for you so take some time to research some new healthy recipes to break up the monotony until we can go out for meals again.

10. Herbal Tea

I know herbal tea isn’t for everyone but there are some incredible blends out there and they are so good for you. Not only are the herbs healing on a physical and emotional level but the act of making and sitting down with a cup of tea is a ritual I adore.

11. Find a new hobby

With so much extra time on our hands we can indulge ourselves in a new hobby or two.  Enjoy exploring what is next on your list of things you’ve always wanted to try but never had the time!

12. Curl up with a book

This was my life before I had children and of course has been trickier since but I must admit I do still make time to read. It is the perfect escape from current events, allow yourself to be taken on a journey or maybe learn something new and relax with a book or two during this time.

13. Routine

Routine encourages a healthy mindset giving us a sense of purpose, children especially thrive in routine. Establish some sort of routine for yourself and/or your children on a daily basis while self isolating, getting up at the same time, incorporating some form of exercise and time outside in nature is a good place to start.

14. Limit Social media and news

I highly recommend limiting social media and news in general but especially during times of extreme stress. Seek reputable news sources for a short period of time each day to be informed and then switch off. The news incites anxiety and stress and is something we can easily shut off and avoid. Social media is another one that we should limit especially if we are finding ourselves constantly scrolling through posts of stress and doom and gloom. Take a break.

15. Book a session

Last but certainly not least keeping up with regular healing sessions is so important right now. I’ve noticed that many people are being triggered by all sorts of things right now and allowing energy to build up is un-necessary. I work via video chat so there is no concern with contact. Please if you are struggling with anxiety or stress reach out and book a session.

I hope that some of these ideas have resonated and that you take up one or two in your daily routine to fill your cup.
